Rose Hill Elders & Deacons
Elders and deacons (along with the Pastors) are the elected officers of the church. They are elected at our congregational meeting in January and serve a three year term. Their responsibilities at Rose Hill are much the same as in the New Testament.
Elders are found throughout both the Old and New Testaments and served as overseers of the community or church. The Greek word for elder in the New Testament is "presbuteros" from which we get the name Presbyterian. The Book of Acts has several references to elders in the Jerusalem church governing and ministering alongside the apostles. The elders have responsibilities in the following areas at Rose Hill: Shepherding, Worship, Christian Education, Stewardship, Administration and the higher governing levels of the denomination.
Deacons serve the church in a ministry of sympathy, witness and service. Acts 6:1-6 is the first example of choosing deacons to serve in the early Christian Church. They care for the needs of the people both inside the church's membership and outside the church in the community.
